Finding out which files and folders consume the most of your disk space in a manual manner, without the use of specialized tools, can be a pretty difficult task. To avoid having to deal with such troublesome situations, programs like Folder Size have been created.
Folder Size will display in a clear manner what files and folders from your drives are the largest. In order to accomplish this, Folder Size shows the scanned files and folders as elements of bar charts and pie charts, sorted by size. This will make it easy for you to quickly find out which files are the bulkiest from a folder or what folder takes the most from a drive, even if these files or folders were hidden underneath many other directories and subdirectories and you wouldn’t have otherwise had any chance of finding them.
What I like most about this program is the fact that it can scan entire hard drives on a pretty high speed, that is in just a few minutes. Handy additional features such as support for drag and drop or for command line mode are also provided. Another nice feature is the possibility of exporting the scan results to CSV or XML files and the chart image to JPEG files. Unfortunately, here comes the part that I must criticize. Even though it is presented and advertised as free, I have discovered that Folder Size actually comes with some limitations. For example, in order to export the reports containing the file sizes, you have to purchase a commercial version. The file filters are another aspect that you can benefit of only if you obtain a paid version of this tool. Maybe it was just an unintentional mistake, but I clearly don’t appreciate this kind of license information gaps that could deceive the users.
Anyway, Folder Size is a nice tool that accomplishes its purpose: it makes it easy for anyone to discover which files and folders are the largest on their drives.
